The world’s leading job search website for people who want a flexible working life is set to expand with more business-to-consumer opportunities. Australia-based recruitment agency, Elance, is partnering with Job Seekers Australia to create a new category – business to business. This will see companies looking to hire business travellers – as opposed to the more traditional office jobseekers. The new service will offer people the chance to work from home, on-the-go. “This is about bringing the internet and the sharing economy into the Australian job market. It will allow companies to have more flexibility in terms of shifts, locations and even the day-to-day management of staff,” Elance’s Director of Global Operations Matt Lehr said. “It will be a new category in the Australian job market. The new service is a great opportunity for workers. “There will be a growing job market with a shortage of qualified workers, that is. There are a lot of people out there looking for a job. “There is an opportunity to be creative, to create jobs, as well as to work as a freelancer. “There are opportunities to be flexible with your work schedule, to do remote and flexible work, and even to work as part of a co-working space or virtual office environment. “There is a lot of creative opportunity. It is going to grow and it is good for workers if they can work at home and work as freelancers.” Job Seekers Australia CEO, Jane Scott said the goal is to create opportunities for people in high demand jobs. “There’s a lot of demand in the Australian jobs market and it’s getting worse,” Scott said. “It’s a great opportunity for people that are looking for an opportunity to work at home, or work for themselves, without requiring any kind of corporate sponsorship. “It’s the 21st-century way of working and it’s something that lots of Australians are getting behind.” Scott said the new category will be available across the US and Europe in the coming months. “It’s a new category that will be accessible across Australia. We’re not limiting ourselves to the US,” Scott said. “We want it to be available to all Australians. We’ve got a lot of Australians working from home.” Elance has partnered with Job Seekers Australia to create the new category, with the first company looking to hire business travellers. “[It will be] around 100 to 200 jobs, depending on how many different companies want to work with us. “We’re trying to create an opportunity for people that are out of work and looking for a job.” Scott said the service will be available to Australia-based jobseekers, people in the US, Europe or Singapore. The new service is a great opportunity for workers. “There is a lot of need out there for people with flexible work life. “There is a lot of need for people who can work from home and they are very much under-utilised when we start to have this new category.” Job Seekers Australia will provide access to its platform in the coming days and Elance has already had discussions with companies looking to utilise the new category. “The idea is that you work on a project for the client and they have their own project manager. “They need somebody on the other end to do the admin and they need someone who can work for them on the project. “It’s a way to work for themselves and share the workload as opposed to working for someone else.” Scott said the demand is there and the demand is growing. “There is a long-term vacancy to fill in the Australian jobs market. “We’re seeing this demand for people who can work from home. We’ve seen that in Japan, we’ve seen it in New Zealand and now we’re seeing it in Australia. “It’s a really vibrant place to be right now in the world.” Elance is already on track to deliver its first Australian company using the new service, said Lehr. The company will then be looking to expand with more companies in the coming months.
